A national high school poetry recitation competition developed by the National Endowment for the Arts and Poetry Foundation. The program encourages students to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation and helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage. Students start at a classroom level and winners advance to school-wide competition, regional, and finally a statewide competition. One representative from each state participates at the national finals in Washington, D.C.
