An open level movement class investigating contemporary forms. Class will begin on the floor with a guided somatic warm-up of stretching, strengthening, and coordination exercises heavily influenced by Alexandra's background in Pilates and functional movement. Then class will gradually transition to larger movement and locomotion on our feet. Lastly, it will incorporate a longer phrase of movement as an exercise in memory and self-expression. Alexandra's class will be shaped differently each week by the wide-ranging scope of her studies as a contemporary performance artist. 

Alexandra is a performance artist, teacher, and dance administrator originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She performed in New York City from 2015 until the present appearing in work dancing with/for Emily Schoen, Doug Gillespie, Bryan Strimpel, Julia Antinozzi, ChristinaNoel Reaves, Evik Abbott-Main, Melissa Riker and Kelly Ashton Todd. Alexandra’s own work has been presented through the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, Oregon Fringe Festival, and Chez Bushwick. She has trained around the world at institutions such as San Francisco Conservatory, Bates Dance Festival, Springboard Danse Montreal, among other schools with teachers and mentors of a diverse background. She has been lucky enough to learn and perform works by Ohad Nahirin, Alex Ketley, Larry Keigwin, Victor Quijada, Johannes Wieland, Kate Weare, Trisha Brown and Merce Cunningham. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Arizona where she was awarded the Gertrude Shurr award for excellence in modern dance performance. When not dancing, she is teaching pilates and somatic movement or working as the Programs Manager for the dance nonprofit New Dance Alliance based out of New York City.
