Britt Ransom: Sticky Opening Reception

Britt Ransom: Sticky Opening Reception

LSU School of Art will present Britt Ransom: Sticky January 14 through February 28, 2025, in Glassell Gallery. Integrating local history, ecologies, and research, Sticky, features 3D-printed ant raft sculptures carrying candy oil barrels made of sugar down an abstract model of the Mississippi River. Ants and sugar serve as metaphors for the complex journey of sugar from production to consumption connecting it to troubled ecologies of exploitation and extraction. Today, sugar’s dominance in the food landscape masks its exploitative history. Sticky invites reflection on these entanglements, urging us to confront the sweetness of consumption and its bitter legacy.

A free, public reception is scheduled for February 8, 2025 from 6–8 p.m. at Glassell Gallery. Britt Ransom will give a public lecture Monday, February 10, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. in LSU West Howe Russell Hall room 130. In addition to public programming downtown, visiting artist Britt Ransom will spend several days on campus with LSU School of Art students with a focus on sculpture and digital fabrication. Programs including 3D scanning and printing will be announced in January 2025.

This exhibition is supported in part by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council, as administered by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, Inc. Funding has also been provided by the National Endowment for the Arts.

"Mind Of Echoes: Faces In Color" Art Reception

Welcome to mind of echoes, an exploration into the intricate interplay between memory, emotion, and identity. This exhibition invites you to delve into the metaphorical and literal echoes that resonate within the human mind, revealing how past experiences shape our present selves and influence our perceptions of the world. Just as echoes bounce off surfaces and fade gradually, so too do our experiences and emotions leave lasting impressions on our psyche. the artist has captured the essence of these echoes—how they linger, transform, and influence our lives. Witness the fragmented nature of memory through mixed-media paintings. The artworks explore the duality of memory—both its clarity and its elusiveness. These works of art symbolize how memories are often pieced together and reinterpreted over time. Our sense of identity is deeply intertwined with the echoes of our past. This is a journey through the memories and emotions that define our human experience. We hope this exploration of the mind of echoes foster a deeper understanding of the ways in which our past continues to resonate in our lives.

Ciara Sanders is not just an artist; she is a visionary who transforms blank canvases into profound narratives, and her journey is a testament to the power of creativity, dedication, and passion. Her work is an invitation to embrace the beauty of life and culture through the lens of art, and her future promises even more vibrant and playful creations that will undoubtedly leave a lasting mark on the world.

From The Cracks Grew A Blu Magnolia Art Exhibition

It started as a small, inconspicuous sprout. At first, people barely noticed it. But as days passed, its azure leaves unfurled with a vibrant intensity that seemed almost otherworldly against the dull gray of the city. The blu magnolia stood in stark contrast to the drab surroundings, a splash of surreal beauty emerging from the broken ground. The story of the blu magnolia quickly became the talk of the town. Children marveled at its striking color, which they had never seen before.

Among them was a young artist named Harmani, whose life had recently been shadowed by a series of personal losses. She found solace in the blu magnolia, its resilience resonating with her own struggles.

One day, while painting, Harmani noticed a man standing silently near the blossom. He was an elderly figure, with a weathered face and kind eyes. Curious, she approached him.

“What brings you here?” she asked. The man smiled, his eyes reflecting a mixture of sadness and joy. “I used to live here, many years ago. I remember when this city was full of life and laughter. Then, as the city grew and changed, we were all pushed aside.

Harmani listened, intrigued. “Do you think the blu magnolia means something?” The man nodded. “Sometimes, beauty and hope find their way into the most unexpected places. Maybe the flower is a reminder that even in decay, there is still a chance for renewal.

And so, the blu magnolia thrived, a living testament to the enduring spirit of renewal. It stood as a beacon of hope, growing from the cracks and transforming both its surroundings and the hearts of those who beheld its beauty.
